Mystery outage takes major world websites offline

1 Mins read

Major websites have been taken offline in the wake of a mystery outage across the internet on Tuesday.

CNN reports that the gov.uk website, Pinterest, Reddit and media outlets including the New York Times, Guardian and Financial Times are unavailable with users receiving an “Error 503 service unavailable” message.

That indicates web servers are unable to handle requests to access the websites.

Reports suggest that the issue has been caused by problems at Fastly, a data centre provider used by Amazon Web Services, Amazon’s cloud computing division.
